The U.S. Air Force ROTC High School scholarship program offers high school seniors the chance to earn a 3 or 4-year scholarship in three different types. You can apply for a scholarship directly online, but there are several things you should know first.

There are three different scholarships offered to high school seniors – Type 1, Type 2 and Type 7. The application process for each scholarship opportunity is the same.

A Type 1 Scholarship from the U.S. Air Force ROTC pays the student’s full tuition cost, most college fees, and awards the student $750/year for books.

According to their website, only about 5% of 4-year scholarship winners will receive a Type 1 scholarships, and will generally be studying in a technical field. This includes chemistry, engineering, mathematics, etc.

A Type 2 Scholarships will pay college tuition and the majority of fees up to $15,000 and awards the student $750/year for books. 20% of students offered a 4-year scholarship will receive a Type 2 award.

If you wish to attend a college where tuition costs more than $15,000/year, you can attend that college and pay the difference. All 3-year scholarships awarded are Type 2.

Finally, a Type 7 Scholarship pays full college tuition AND fees and offers $750/year for books.

However, the student must attend a college or university where tuition is less than $9,000 per year. Students can alternatively attend an in-state college or university where they can qualify for the in-state tuition rate.

In addition to the scholarship award, students will also receive a living expenses stipend each month and travel expenses to get to their Air Force ROTC detachment.
