Living on Earth Editorial Internship
Are you pursuing a degree in broadcast media? Are you searching for an opportunity to gain valuable real-world knowledge about the field, and possibly earn college credit for doing so?
Then a Living on Earth Editorial Internship might be for you!
Each college semester, Living on Earth takes on a handful of interns who are studying broadcast media and wish to know what goes on behind the scenes of a public radio news magazine.
The news magazine, distributed nationally, relies on interns to help contribute towards their award-winning program.
Editorial interns are responsible for a number of duties. First, interns will be expected to be involved in all aspects of story production, including but not limited to locating/researching original story ideas, as well as tracking down correspondents and contacts.
Additionally, interns will also critique scripts and monitor news programs and stories dealing with environmental issues.
Other responsibilities include coming up with questions for interviews and collecting source materials.
To really be effective in a Living on Earth Internship, interested candidates should have some experience in journalism, environmental science and public policy but this is not required.
Strong writing and communication skills are a MUST, and applicants will be required to submit two writing samples as part of their application.
The internship is unpaid, and interns must commit to working one term, at least two full days per week. Internships are offered in the summer, fall and spring. For deadlines, please visit their website.
Applications consist of a resume, a cover letter and two writing samples. These should be mailed to:
