Iris Chang Memorial Essay Contest
The Iris Chang Memorial Contest was developed to support awareness about history among youth.
Iris Chang was a student of history, among other accomplishments, and the contest supports her vision by striving to defend human rights and discovering the truth in history.
Eligible students must submit an essay, and three prizes will be awarded to the best essays received during the competition.
The awards for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place are $1,000, $500 and $300 respectively, and there will be several honorable mention awards of $50 given to additional students.
Interested high school students who wish to earn money for college can also submit an essay to the Iris Chang Youth Award.
This award is only open to high school students who were not selected among the top three prizes, and three students will each receive an award of $200 each.
Eligibility requirements are simple - the contest is open to any student wishing to earn money for college.
There are several other requirements before your application will be considered. Essays must be written on the topic given (for information, please visit their website.) Additionally, essays must be written in English.
Essays must be typed, and should not exceed 2,500 words. You can submit your essay via e-mail or postal mail, but e-mail is the preferred submission method.
When submitting your essay, please be sure to include your contact information. This includes your full name, whether you are a high school, undergraduate or graduate student, your mailing and e-mail addresses, and a contact number where you can be reached.
Essays will not be returned.
