Applying for general scholarships and grants are a good idea no matter what ethnic background you come from, but taking the time to research and apply for Hispanic-specific opportunities can also boost your chances of receiving money for higher education.

The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute
Founded in 1978 by members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, the CHCI is dedicated to promoting a generation of leaders within the Latino community via higher education.
Their chief scholarship award is offered to Latino students who have a strong history of contributing towards public service in their communities, and those students who plan to keep doing so in the future.
Students do not have to have a certain GPA or major to apply. Applicants who exhibit strong leadership capabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.
One-time scholarships will be awarded to Latino students the CHCI deems worthy, and awards will be distributed in one of three ways.
Students can receive a $5,000 scholarship to attend a graduate-level institution; $2500 to attend a four-year college, or $1,000 to attend a community college or earn their AS/AA degree.
Undergraduate students who receive an award will also receive a computer package.
Students must remain in good academic standing, have a history of contributing to their community and demonstrate financial need. Applicants must also have good writing skills and be enrolled full-time in an institution of higher learning.
The CHCI scholarship is only open to Latino students who are U.S. Citizens or permanent residents.

For example, the insurance company State Farm offers 20 Hispanic students a scholarship in the amount of $2,500 to students interested in a teaching career.
