Evalee C. Schwartz Charitable Trust for Education
The Evalee C. Schwartz Charitable Trust for Education, while not a scholarship, offers a unique loan opportunity for students wishing to pursue higher education.
The trust provides interest-free loans to both undergraduate and graduate students who demonstrate exceptional financial need as well as excellent academic performance.
High school seniors are also eligible to apply for a loan.
There are several qualifications students must meet before they are eligible to receive an interest-free loan from the Evalee C. Schwartz Trust.
First, students must be a U.S. citizen at the time of the application. Additionally, students must also qualify for federally funded grants (i.e., demonstrate financial need) by filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA.)
The information supplied on the FAFSA will determine whether you are eligible for an interest-free loan from the trust.
Students must also be enrolled in a school within their home state and demonstrate outstanding academic performance. This will be determined by the applicant’s class rank as well as standardized test scores (scores must be in the top 10% of nation-wide scores to qualify.)
Finally, students may be seeking any type of degree except a law degree. Law students are ineligible to apply for an interest-free loan from the trust.
There are several exceptions to the rules stated above, so for additional details please see the website and click on “Policies and Procedures.”
Loan amounts typically range from $5,000-15,000 and must be re-paid – they are NOT scholarships. However, there are no interest charges or other fees applied to these loans- the amount you borrow is the exact amount you repay.
Loans will be disbursed to students in one lump sum.
