It may seem nearly impossible to find scholarships geared towards students who wish to attending cosmetology school. 

However, with the growing number of prospective college students attending cosmetology trade and beauty schools, and the impact of the beauty industry in today’s society, there is a wealth of opportunities to help you gain money for college. 

Whether you are a new student wishing to pursue a career in cosmetology or are already a professional who wants to continue pursuing their education, there are many resources available to help you attain your goals. 

The beauty industry is booming, and there continues to be an increased demand for trained cosmetology and beauty school students.

Sally Beauty and NCA Scholarships

 

One of the leading brands in the beauty industry, Sally Beauty has partnered with the National Cosmetology Association (NCA) to offer several scholarship opportunities for both new students and professionals wanting to further their education. 

Additionally, Sally Beauty and the NCA offer two scholarships to children or grandchildren of NCA members to use in pursuing education at the college level. 

Overall, ten awards are given to eligible students who meet the criteria and apply for a scholarship from Sally Beauty and the NCA. There are three categories of scholarships offered annually. 

The first category awards five scholarships to students under the age of 26 at the time of application. Students must be high school graduates and plan to enter the cosmetology profession. 

The second category awards three scholarships to current members of the NCA who wish to pursue more advanced education within the field of cosmetology. Finally, two scholarships are given to grandchildren or children of NCA members to help them obtain their desire of a higher education. 

All scholarships are $1,000, and the deadline for applications is January 15th, 2008. For more information, please visit their website.

American Health and Beauty Aids Institute Scholarship

 

The American Health and Beauty Aids Institute Scholarship (AHBAI) offers two scholarship programs, with one geared specifically towards cosmetology students. 

The scholarship, awarded through the AHBAI Fred Luster, Sr. Education Foundation provides a total of $5,000 to beauty school students. 

Scholarships will be awarded to students in $250 and $500 amounts. 

In order to be eligible for a cosmetology scholarship from AHBAI, there are several criteria students must meet to apply. 

First, applicants must have an 85% or higher average in school and completed a minimum of 300 hours. Student’s extracurricular activities, any awards and school attendance records will also be taken into consideration when choosing students to receive a scholarship award.

School Specific Cosmetology Scholarships

 

One of the best places to look for cosmetology scholarships is the school you are planning to attend or are already attending. 

Johnson County Community College offers the Munoz Cosmetology Scholarship to help aspiring cosmetology students pay a portion of their educational expenses. 

The award equals 25% of the tuition fee for the cosmetology program the student is enrolled in, but cannot total more than $1,000. 

While the scholarship isn’t exclusive to minority students, preference will be given to Hispanic students studying in one of the many disciplines of cosmetology.

Outstanding students in the cosmetology department of Cerritos College may qualify for a $400 scholarship award from the Cerritos College Foundation. 

Awards are only offered in the spring, and faculty members hand-pick students for the award based on their outstanding academic performance within the cosmetology department. 

The CAPRI Institute also offers several scholarship opportunities to students wishing to enroll in a cosmetology program. 

The Early Decision Scholarship awards $300, and is available to all prospective cosmetology students who enroll in July, August or September. 

This scholarship can be combined with other scholarship the institute offers, including the $500 High School Essay Scholarship or any of the other awards they offer.

Other Scholarships and Programs

 

OPI, a leading company in nail care, also offers cosmetology scholarships to students interested in pursuing a degree in this field. 

The company advocates the continued excellence and growth of the beauty industry, and awards one $500 scholarship each month to a deserving student studying Nail Technology/Manicuring. 

OPI also gives away general cosmetology scholarship as well to students who are enrolled in an OPI preferred school. For more details and to fill out an application, visit their website! 

The American Association of Cosmetology Schools (AACS), via the website Careers In Beauty, offer multiple scholarship to students wishing to pursue a degree in cosmetology. 

One opportunity, the NCEA Esthetician Scholarship offers several $1,000 scholarships to students who are attending an AACS Member School. 

Not only must students excel academically in their program of choice, but they must also demonstrate financial need to be eligible for this scholarship. 

Unlike most scholarships that determine financial need via the FAFSA, interested applicants must include a short written note with their application explaining their financial situation and why they desire to receive the scholarship. 

Scholarships are only awarded to students studying an esthetician-only training program. 

The website also offers the Joe Francis Hair care Scholarship, which awards scholarships in the amount of $1,000 to applicants who are enrolled in any cosmetology program, not including esthetician training.
