Blogging For Progress Scholarship
Like blogging? Plan to go to college within the next two years? Need a way to pay for it? Look no further than the Blogging For Progress Scholarship opportunity. Offered by Progressive U, the scholarship is open to students aged 16 or older (by April 15, 2007) who plan to attend a traditional university, college, or vocational school.
In order to apply for this scholarship, students must create a blog where they write about society, current events, public policy, and environmental issues. Winners are then selected based on a points system – those who have the most points accumulated will win a scholarship. There are three awards offered, ranging from $500-1000. The first place winner will receive the $1000 scholarship, while two runners-up will receive $500 awards.
Points are awarded based on a number of factors. For example, for every blog post you write that’s accepted to the site, you earn 50 points. Additionally, you’ll earn one point for each page view your posts accumulate, and 10 points for every comment you make on the website while you’re logged in. Progressive U’s website states they may add additional opportunities for bonus points at a later date.
If you enjoy blogging and need a fun, unique way to pay for college, the Blogging For Progress Scholarship may be the perfect opportunity for you. Keep in mind if you’ve won this award in a previous semester, you are not eligible to apply for the award this year.
The competition began February 15th, 2007 but interested applicants are still encouraged to apply. The deadline for this scholarship is April 15, 2007 and is open to students in any field of study. This entry needs to be updated. Our current contest runs through December 15, 2007, and users must be registered by October 15, 2007.
It should also be noted (because we get e-mails like this quite often) that we cannot give out scholarships without participation in the site.

It appears the next deadline is on Feb. 15th, 2008. Looks like a good place for college bloggers to get an audience and technical set up!

I just wanted to note that the Blogging for Progress scholarship contest is held twice a year (in the spring and again in the fall), so even though this post is a year old; you can still participate in the scholarship contests as they approach; once each spring and once each fall!
